CHARLESTON CHAPTER NRHS

50th ANNIVERSARY

The Charleston Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society met at The Best Friend Train Museum on Saturday, April 8, 2017 to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.  Joe Maloney, Vice-President of the NRHS, presented a 50th year certificate from the national society to the chapter’s president, Art Giardino.  Also in attendance were three former chapter presidents, Pete Stabovitz, Alex McIntosh and Mary Lehr.

Following the presentation, the chapter enjoyed a luncheon in The Best Friend Lounge at The Mills House.  President Giardino welcomed chapter members and their guests and presented commemorative Best Friend of Charleston glasses to the national attendees.

The NRHS is an international organization of over 13,000 members and is the largest rail enthusiast organization in the United States.

The local chapter was formed to preserve the history of railroading and to encourage good fellowship.  In recent years the chapter has participated in the establishment of The Best Friend Train Museum and the reopening of The Best Friend Lounge.
